How the BID works

Retail Birmingham BID:

Operate exclusively for the benefit of retailers within the BID area, including:

  • shops
  • banks and building societies
  • restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars
  • hotels and leisure operators
  • travel, recruitment and estate agents
  • public car parks

Is funded by:

  • A modest annual BID levy based on the rateable value of the above retailers‚ business premises
  • Voluntary contributions are made by the owners of the four major shopping centres in lieu of BID levy payments by occupiers who pay significant service charges, particularly to support marketing activities
  • Cash and in-kind support from Birmingham City Council, Marketing Birmingham and other private sector contributions and commercial income
